How Does Telehealth Physiotherapy Work?

Telehealth physiotherapy provides convenient, evidence-based care from wherever you are—whether you're at home, at work, or travelling. Using a secure video consultation, your physiotherapist can assess your condition, provide expert advice, and guide you through a personalised rehabilitation program.

What happens during the consultation?

Your physiotherapist will begin by discussing your medical history, the history of your injury, and your current symptoms. You may be asked questions about:

  • The location and type of pain

  • When your symptoms occur

  • Pain intensity and aggravating or relieving factors

  • Your activity level, training, and goals

  • Any previous injuries or relevant medical history

You will be guided through a series of movement and functional assessments to help determine the cause of your symptoms and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

What are the benefits of telehealth physiotherapy?

Telehealth offers a convenient and flexible way to access expert physiotherapy care without the need to travel. It is particularly well suited for climbers, outdoor enthusiasts, and individuals who may be away from home or have limited access to physiotherapy services.

Benefits include:

  • Access physiotherapy from anywhere with an internet connection

  • Convenient appointments that fit around your schedule

  • Ongoing support while travelling, climbing, or on outdoor adventures

  • Personalised exercise-based rehabilitation and education

Are there any limitations?

While many musculoskeletal conditions can be effectively assessed and managed via telehealth, some injuries may require an in-person assessment or hands-on treatment.

If, during your consultation, it becomes apparent that your condition would benefit from face-to-face care, you will be advised and where appropriate, referred to a suitable healthcare provider.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

To help you get the most from your consultation, we recommend:

  • Using a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a stable internet connection

  • Setting up in a well-lit area with enough space to move freely

  • Wearing clothing that allows the injured area to be easily assessed

  • Having a mat or suitable space available if exercises are required

What should I expect after the session?

By the end of your appointment, you should have a good understanding of your condition, the factors contributing to your symptoms, and your rehabilitation plan.

Where appropriate, you will receive:

  • A personalised exercise program

  • Written advice and self-management strategies

  • Progression guidelines and rehabilitation goals

  • Access to your exercises via PDF or a mobile app with instructional videos

Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to recover effectively and return to the activities you enjoy.
